At this level, managers can be trained and equipped with fundamental skills to conduct a leader/employee conversation that is real and effective using basic coaching listening and questioning skills, and apply suggested coaching models. The managers will also learn how to develop self-awareness and reflection skills in actions (contents and processes) and on action (meaning, values and motives). Clients who have implemented this step have seen their manager-employee engagement improve significantly by equipping managers with these skills.
The process of coaching starts with the manager-coach collecting background information through observations, feedback, assessments, performance results, and input from the employee. Increasing self-awareness is an important goal of coaching and skilled managers will apply feedback processes to facilitate self-discovery in the beginning of the coaching process.
